Garuva Hidden Tranquillity Restaurant is unique.

Patrons sit on cushioned rugs on the floor with supported back rests, low tables and very dim lighting.  All the tables (or booths) are enclosed by sheer curtains.

The atmosphere is very private and especially intimate for couples.

Garuva caters both to couples and larger gatherings of up to thirty people.

During the week the mood of the restaurant is very tranquil (hence the name) although Friday and Saturday nights tend to be busier and loud.

Even on our loudest evening we have 8 booths in one corner of the restaurant devoted to groups of two to four for those patrons wishing to enjoy the tranquility of Garuva.

Set apart from the main booths, there is a private function room in the far corner which can accommodate up to 30 patrons.  Especially suitable for large birthday parties, hen’s nights, going away parties, staff functions etc.

The restaurant is open 7 nights a week from 6pm to midnight and is only closed on certain public holidays.  The bar stays open up to 2am on weekends. The restaurant is fully licenced and not BYO.

During the week Sunday to Thursday there is no time restriction, but Friday and Saturday nights when the restaurant is fully booked for 2 sittings, the first sitting is for 2 hours only.  Most patrons prefer after a couple of hours to go into the cocktail bar and finish off the night relaxing on cushions on the floor listening to live music in the bar Friday and Saturday nights 8pm to 11pm.

Garuva Hidden Tranquillity Restaurant & Bar's popularity is due to word of mouth.  It has never advertised (advertising budget … what’s that?).

New patrons are coming through the doors every night and there is not even a sign outside.  It is certainly hidden and 99 percent of the time very tranquil.

Garuva's history

Garuva Hidden Tranquillity Restaurant began in Fortitude Valley (cnr Wickham & Gipps Streets) in approximately 1992.

Because of the popularity of the restaurant right from inception, a cocktail bar was added a few years later to house those guests who were waiting to go into the restaurant to dine.

In January 2002 the restaurant & bar moved premises to 324 Wickham Street.

Parking is convenient at the Valley Centre multi level car park (accessed from St Pauls Tce, Constance St or Alden St) and offstreet parking is available after 7pm Mon-Fri and on Sat & Sun.
